The 2027 Coachmen Northern Spirit 16RDB is one of our favorite lightweight couples trailers because it gives you the construction and feel of a much more expensive RV in a compact, approximately 3,000-lb. package.

What really stands out to us is the combination of huge windows, a large rear U-shaped dinette, a full bathroom, and Coachmen's Aluma-Cage construction with double Azdel composite walls. The big windows completely change the feel inside the trailer, bringing in tons of natural light and making this compact floorplan feel much larger and more open.

At only 20' 11" long and approximately 3,008 lbs. unloaded, it's an excellent option for couples who want to stay lightweight without stepping down to a basic entry-level trailer.

Huge Windows & Tons of Natural Light

One of the first things we noticed about the 16RDB is just how much glass Coachmen has incorporated into this floorplan.

The large windows surrounding the rear dinette bring a ton of natural light into the trailer and give you great views of your campsite while you're sitting inside.

This is something that makes a huge difference in a smaller trailer. Instead of feeling closed-in or cramped, the windows make the 16RDB feel bright, open, and considerably larger than its dimensions suggest.

Large Rear U-Shaped Dinette

The large rear U-shaped dinette is another major reason why we like this floorplan.

You get a proper seating area where you can comfortably sit down for meals, have your morning coffee, play cards, or relax inside when the weather isn't cooperating.

Combined with all of the surrounding windows, it's probably one of our favorite areas of the trailer. You can sit at the back of the RV and actually enjoy the view of wherever you're camping.

Higher-End Double Azdel & Aluma-Cage Construction

Construction is one of the biggest reasons we'd consider the Northern Spirit over many conventional lightweight trailers.

The 16RDB uses Coachmen's Aluma-Cage construction with aluminum framing and double Azdel composite construction.

Azdel is used in place of traditional wood-based wall backing, helping create a lightweight and durable laminated wall structure.

It's a higher-end construction method than the traditional stick-and-tin construction commonly found in lightweight trailers and gives the 16RDB a more premium foundation while still keeping the unloaded weight around 3,000 lbs.

Full Bathroom

Despite being only 20' 11" long, the 16RDB still gives you a proper full bathroom.

That's a major advantage for buyers coming from tent camping, pop-ups, or smaller trailers where bathroom facilities can be compromised or eliminated altogether.

Having your own bathroom means you don't have to rely on campground facilities, which makes longer trips and more remote camping considerably more comfortable.

What's impressive is that Coachmen manages to package all of this into a trailer weighing approximately 3,008 lbs. unloaded.

The 7-foot-wide body also helps keep the trailer narrow and manageable when towing and backing into campsites.

50-Gallon Fresh Water Capacity

The 50-gallon fresh-water capacity is another impressive number considering the overall size of the trailer.

You also get 35-gallon gray and 35-gallon black tanks, giving the 16RDB useful holding-tank capacity for longer trips.

For a lightweight trailer that's only 20' 11" long, those are very respectable capacities.

The 2027 Coachmen Northern Spirit 16RDB doesn't feel like a stripped-down lightweight trailer.

The combination of huge windows, a large rear U-shaped dinette, full bathroom, and higher-end Aluma-Cage construction with double Azdel composite walls gives it a much more substantial feel while keeping the unloaded weight at approximately 3,008 lbs.

We especially love the rear of this trailer. Sitting at that large U-dinette surrounded by windows gives you a bright, open living space and a great view of your campsite.
